AAAPC is a proudly multidisciplinary and inclusive group of people working, studying, interested in, and retired, from academic primary care.

Our members are from Australia and New Zealand. All share a passion for primary care and include:

  • Professionals from any primary care discipline who have an interest in research and/or education
  • Primary care academics working at universities or with training providers
  • Higher degree research students and/or postgraduate trainees of primary care disciplines
  • Organisations with an interest in strengthening the capacity, capability and influence of primary care in the health systems of Australia and New Zealand. These include universities, regional health authorities, primary care training providers and professional colleges.

We welcome members from general practice, primary care nursing, physiotherapy, dietetics, pharmacy, psychology and social work but your background is not important as long as you share our goals of:

  • Championing a vision of primary care oriented heath care that is underpinned by high quality evidence and education
  • Promoting and nurturing research and scholarly activity in primary care
  • Mentoring and developing the academic primary care workforce.

We aim to be a visible, effective and sustainable organisation that is responsive to a broad primary care membership.

We are a not-for-profit organisation run entirely on the goodwill and time of our membership. Your membership fees go towards the fellowships we offer, the meetings, conferences and events we run and the maintenance of our website.

AAAPC recognises that some of our colleagues face a range of financial hardships. If your financial situation is a barrier to you becoming a member of the AAAPC, please email the President, Phyllis Lau, at secretariat@aaapc.org.au to request a membership fee reduction, outlining your reason for the request. Circumstances may include factors such as a change in economic circumstances or being from a LMIC. Individual requests will be reviewed by the President and Vice President on a case-by-case basis.
